Why uKognos
Schools are full of necessary work that doesn't call for judgement, like making the hours add up, copying data from one place to another, preparing the same material for the umpteenth time or noting down a fault on a scrap of paper. uKognos exists to make that part shorter.
-
Take work away, don't add it
A new tool often means new work, because you have to learn it, feed it and check what it does. uKognos apps have to pay for themselves in time. If an app doesn't save more work than it asks for, there's no point to it.
-
One specific problem per app
We don't want to build a platform that does everything. Each app solves one thing in the daily routine and solves it properly, whether that's preparing and marking materials, building the timetable or handling maintenance reports. When a new need comes up, a new app follows, small and independent.
-
Simple, no training needed
You should be able to use them without a course and without being technical. They run in the browser, on your phone too, and there's nothing to install. If you need a course before you can start using a tool, the tool has failed.
-
Made from the inside
They're made by someone who has worked in a school and knows how it runs. Someone who knows how hours are shared out, what the regulations say and what happens in the first week of September. That's why they speak the school's language and fit in with the management platforms you already use.
-
A person makes the decisions
The apps suggest, calculate and flag things up, but decisions are made by the people who know the school and the students. A timetable is checked before it's signed off, a material before it's published, and a fault report is closed by whoever fixed it.
-
Where the time goes
The time saved isn't for doing more mechanical tasks. It's for the work people do best, like preparing a good lesson, supporting a student who needs it, talking to a family or running the school calmly.
-
In short
The goal of uKognos isn't to bring more technology into schools, but to make sure the technology they have saves time. Fewer hours on mechanical tasks means more hours for teaching.
